When I post pictures that I have taken for others to see and comment on, I try to put up shots old and new that I feel have some artistic merit that conveys what i was trying to create on the shoot. A combination of the model's pose, her expression, her interaction with the environment that we have chosen and the lighting that works best with that combination. I always have a respect for my subjects and I want that to show in my work. And so it has become interesting to me when someone chooses one of my shots as a favorite to see what other favorites that they have chosen to group my shot with. Often, I am pleased with a lot of the shots that mine are grouped with. But occasionally, someone puts them with shots that are completely different from the kind of work I am trying to do sometimes bordering on pornography. I don't know whether to be insulted by that or not. Then part of me thinks that maybe, despite their normal choices, mine have stood out to them as shots of quality that they like in spite of the other choices for reasons that even they don't quite understand. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Which brings me to the other thought that I have been having. People will judge me not just by the work that I post, but by the favorites that I choose as well. the shots of others that i respond to say as much about me to others as my own work. I don't choose my favorites to impress others. I simply respond to images that I feel are strong and that exemplify the female figure in a manner that is both respectful and artistic. Hopefully when people look at as combination of my work and the work that I like, it will tell them something about me.
